Our Story

From the invention of the first electric starter motor in 1912 to the latest in Hybrid technology today, Remy is the largest manufacturer, re-manufacturer of starter motors and alternators in the industry.

1896

Frank & Perry Remy founded Remy Electric Company. Introduced Remy Magneto for early “horseless carriages”

1906

Remy’s magnetos and dynamos evolved to self starters, i.e., 1912: first electric auto starter.

1927

Remy Electric and DELCO merged to form Delco Remy, a General Motors Division.

1928-1993

Through innovation and diversified products, Delco Remy became World’s largest manufacturer of auto electrical equipment.

1994

Delco Remy International, Inc. became an independent company.

2004

August 1, 2004, Remy trademark was added to the company’s brand portfolio.

Today

Remy continues to provide the standards of manufacturing to the Aftermarket.
